We sat down with Sophia Miceli to talk about all things… Gentlemen’s Tonic and why it’s the perfect getaway for that man in your life.
Q: What is the significance behind the name “Gentlemen’s Tonic”?
A: Gentlemen’s Tonic is a unique establishment that was founded in the heart of Mayfair that affords the modern man a traditional barbershop and a variety of lifestyle and grooming services.
The name Gentlemen’s Tonic has been chosen to reflect two aspects of the business: Gentlemen’s to indicate that the business is dedicated exclusively to the needs of men and Tonic to signify the restorative properties of the experience.
Q: What would you say is the vibe inside Gentlemen’s Tonic?
A: Our location at Uptown Park combines elements of old and new: wood, leather and marble are mixed with high-tech music consoles and LCD screens in each of our private haircutting stations and treatment rooms. Clients can feel comfortable to walk in however them deem comfortable whether that’s work out clothes or a designer men’s suit – we are happy to have you.
Q: What are the different treatments that you offer?
A: We offer a variety of treatments from treatments that you can get in any barbershop to facials, waxing, massages, etc. The most popular is the wet shave and prep facial priced at $55. The prep facial cleanses, tones, soothes and hydrates the skin then is followed by a wet shave, which is the ultimate shaving experience. With the wet shave, discover being shaved by an expert using a variety of exclusive products and swathed in steaming hot towels.
Q: Do you have packages for men depending on their mood?
A: Oh yes – we have packages to suite any man. For example, we have a package called “The Rubio” which is ‘for the ultimate playboy.’ This package includes a haircut and finish, wet shave, express facial, hand treatment and Swedish massage – all for $230.
There’s “The Valentino” that ‘will have you taking the leading role.’ This package involves a hand and foot treatment, rejuvenation facial and revitalizing and refreshing eye treatment – all for $195.
We also have “The Hemingway” for a man ‘after a heavy night of drinking and bull fighting.’ This package includes a Bloody Mary (or two), aromatherapy facial and a massage – all for $225.

Q: We see that you sell luxurious products – can you tell us a little bit about what’s available to purchase at Gentlemen’s Tonic?
A: We sell 3 high-end brands: Gentlemen’s Tonic Signature Products, Phyto. Dermologica and Castle Forbes. Within those brands we sell everything from products such as shaving cream, aftershave cream, facial cleanser, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand balm to gift sets to chill out music and accessories. All of these items are also available on our website as well, so if you’re short on time can’t stop in the store – you can simply go to our website and we can ship everything directly to your door.
Q: For a lot of men it’s hard to take time off work or away from the family to do something for yourself. Do you cater to busy schedules of your clients?
A: Absolutely. We stay open until 7 pm on most days and 9 pm on Thursdays. We are also available for private parties and house visits. We pride on going above and beyond for our customers.
Q: Can you tell you what the process is for your most popular treatment – the wet shave and prep facial?
A: Absolutely – the process involves a couple of steps:
•We start with a warm towel for a couple minutes on the face to open up the pores.
•We then apply Gentlemen’s Tonic facial cleanser to clean the surface of the skin to prevent ingrown hairs and to help the skin grow healthier.
•A warm towel is reapplied to remove the facial cleanser.
•Next oil is applied to the skin in a circular motion. The oil acts as a buffer between the skin and the razor, lifting up the hair for a closer shave.
•The warm towel is reapplied to keep the pores open and continue to soften the beard.
•A sterilized handmade faux Ivory shaving brush with Super Badger hair is used to mixed Gentlemen’s Tonic lavender shave cream with hot water. This lather is then applied with the shaving brush to the skin.
• Once the master barber thinks the skin is nice and moist, we take our changeable straight edge razor and go slow on the skin with the grain to ensure a close, clean shave.
•We repeat the shaving process a second time to ensure that no hairs were missed.
•A warm towel is reapplied.
•Gentlemen’s Tonic Toner is sprayed onto the skin to close the pores.
•A warm towel is reapplied.
•Aftershave cream is applied to sooth the skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs and helps to heal the skin faster.
•A moisturizer is placed on top of the after shave cream for additional softness.
•We then add a little bit of eye cream to de-puff and make you look rested.
•To finish it off, we take talc powder, put it in a towel and sprinkle it over the skin.
